The
REAL KIDS were a powerful combination of pop melodies,
50s-style rock and roll riffs and 70s punk energy. A few of their
songs rank with power pop's all time greatest ("All Kindsa
Girls" !!!), and at their peak they were the best pop band
to ever come from Boston. They were also one of the best US bands
of the 1977-1982 explosion, with a first album that everybody considers
a legendary masterpiece.
"THE
NEW ROSE YEARS" is the anthology everybody was waiting
for, with all the Real Kids stuff on the New Rose label. Everybody
needs to get this 2LP. It includes their second studio album "Outtaplace"
(which is almost better than the first one, toning down the volume
a bit and adding 12-string guitar to the mix without sapping their
energy), AND their most sought-after record, the french-only LP
"Hit You Hard" which had never been reissued since 1983.
This is a great album with many of John Felice´s poppier gems,
that very few people owns. Oh, and there´s more, a generous
BONUS of 8 tracks recorded live in Paris, 1983.!. So… count
them, it is 9 songs from the "Outtaplace" (1982) LP, 10
songs from the "Hit You Hard" LP (1983), and 8 songs from
the "All Kinda Jerks Live" LP (1983). This double LP,
along with the previous reissues of the band, complete the circle
of one of the best american bands of the era.
