Listening to THE DEVASTATIONS’ music is like having a walk through the darkest side of the heart of Australia. The isolation, the bad feelings and sorrows of growing up and living in such a devastated city as Melbourne is (which Powder Monkeys called the “lost city”), they all arise in a clear, expressive and sad way through the grooves of their album. Growing up also with the music of THE BIRTHDAY PARTY, BEASTS OF BOURBON or HUGO RACE, together with their passion for Europe (they have in fact moved to EINSTURZENDE NEUBAUTEN’s Berlin), have made THE DEVASTATIONS develope a sad, startling music, without which the present Australian music state cannot be understood.
The Devastations have come back to the studio in order to record their second and eagerly awaited album (the first one, The Devastations, has managed to get unanimous acclaim from the international specialized media... and not surprisingly! for many people this was the best album in 2003!!), and while they are recording the new album they have treated us with two songs for their new single in Bang! Records, two exercises of passion and admiration towards two of their main inspirers: Beasts Of Bourbon’s “The Low Road” and Bob Dylan’s “Tomorrow Is A Long Time”.
