DANNY & THE NIGHTMARES 'Death Of Satan' (7")
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites

Formed April Fool's Day 1999, Waller, Texas... Bridget and Jason, two recent Ohio transplants discover that the legendary songwriter Daniel Johnston lives in the same very small town in which they do. They make contact, and make arrangements to have a spaghetti dinner with Daniel at their home. The spaghetti was never made. Instead, when Danny noticed the collection of lame, broken musical instruments and the 25 dollar drum kit gathering dust in the couple's home, he insisted that they jam. The three plugged in, pressed record on the boombox, and recorded half of what would become the self-released demo c.d., "April 1999". It became immediately obvious that the three had a magical connection, sharing affinities for bizarre music, horror films, and soda-pop. The release of the demo disc was a major disappointment to the band. Funded by Danny, and released on his own Eternal Yip Eye imprint, the collection of songs was not only horrible and released in haste, it was not even the correct tape that had been taken to transfer. Danny apparently had accidentally taken a different tape of inferior quality to the duplication company. In 2000, the band released the "Natzi" 7'' single on the independent label Cool Beans. The following year, "The End is Near Again" e.p. was released by the same label. In 2003 the band got the opportunity to do a small tour opening for the legendary Butthole Surfers. 2005 saw the release of "Freak Brain", on the Sympathy for the Record Industry label. "Freak Brain" was a different type of experiment for the band. As it turned out, the record was the first and only record that Danny had ever played electrified instruments on. Danny wrote many of the songs on the bass guitar. 2006 has been a very remarkable and productive year for the band. They have recruited the talents of an all-girl string quartet, Two Star Symphony, to help record their next album, "The Death of Satan". Look for the new album to be released sometime around 2060...God Bless Danny & the Nightmares and all who sail with them.

DEE RANGERS + DON CRAINE 'Dee-Sected' (7")
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites

Another great surprise!!! One of the best garage-R&B acts you can find nowadays (from White Jazz, Estrus, etc) with one of the fathers of white R&B, mastermind Don Craine from Downliners Sect!!! After a casual meeting in an old Stockholm club, Don offered himself to cooperate in the Dee Rangers’ next recording that was to take place in London, all in exchange for a good libanese dinner. This EP was recorded in Liam Watson’s Toe Rag Studios, where acts such as Neanderthals, Kaisers, Dr. Explosion, Los Perros or White Stripes have recorded...

The title song is one of the band’s biggest hits, with a video running in some programs in Spanish TV. It’s a difficult to resist song with Poch getting crazier and crazier.  Second single. 1982. b/w "Tupés en crecimiento".

DERRIBOS ARIAS 'Aprenda alemán en 7 días' (7")

After their long awaited debut LP (“En la guía, en el listín”) some critics started to voice their doubts about the band. Poch’s answer was fast: In 1983 they release their third single with an excelent cover of “Lili Marlen” as the B- Side. Derribos Arias were one of the most original and surprising bands ever to come out from Spain and they surely deserve a new recognition. Not easy music but nevertheless irresistible. So if you love predictable things, get away from this!

"Some milestones of rock'n'roll magic are destined to stay where they started, and until now these early Cobras sides have done just that, languishing—like many of the musty 45s that inspired them—in attics and basements in the city in which they were created. But their time has long been overdue, and now here they are, along with a few unreleased sides from those halcyon early days, for rock ‘n’ roll fans the world over to blast loud and proud." Dexter Linwood (taken from the massive liner notes).

DIRTBOMBS 'Brand New Game' (7")
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites

Two brand new, exclusive songs available only on vinyl and in a limited edition.

This is the first Dirtbombs recording in more than a year! On the A-Side we find a cover of late Elliot Smith’s “Brand New Game”. On the B-Side we have a Dirtbombs original, composed by Mick Collins.

Mick put The Dirtbombs together in 1992 as a side project, after the breakup of THE GORIES. After many, many delays (including the now-legendary lineup changes, and a 14-month stretch Mick spent in a completely different band), the Dirtbombs started recording in 1995 and touring about a year after that. With their unconventional lineup and unique melding of genres, the Dirtbombs create a sound that is all their own. As a fansite says, “The structure of two bassists and two drummers gives the band a heavy rhythm-bass sound that drives the music forward and inspires the dance in even the stiffest of blokes.  This structure isn't going to become the new standard for rock bands - it definately wouldn't work for everyone, but it's perfect for the Dirtbombs' sound.  Drawing on Detroit's rich musical history, the Dirtbombs are a hybrid of influences including soul, blues, Motown and garage/punk. The listener hears Stevie Wonder one second and the MC5 the next.”

Collins has been a big figure in the Detroit scene since the early 80's.  Founding member of the GORIES and producer of hundreds of bands from Andre Williams to Atom Rhumba, he’s been a main contributor to the current hype that has put Detroit back again in the map of “cool rock ‘n’ roll”. His minimalist and bluesy approach to garage rock with his former band The Gories has influenced countless bands - most notably the White Stripes.
