BANDA UNIAO BLACK 'Yeah Yeah Yeah' (7")
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites

“If you could have seen the black kids in Rio during the 60s… It was horrible. They all went around on the street hunched over with their heads hanging down. Then James Brown came around, Wilson Picket, and all the rest. We would dress and act just like them; that was how we learned to feel proud. We loved the energy of those American blacks. James Brown was our Martin Luther King” - Ivan Tiririca, Drummer for União Black.

Tim Maia and Cassiano of União Black found themselves among the creators of Brazilian Soul at the end of the 60s; they were the ones to set the stage for the Black Rio or Black Power movement. Ivan Tiririca, the band’s drummer, was also an official Soul DJ for all the Rio parties. The movement was short lived but it left a deep mark on musicians and the public that followed it. Today, interest has been revived thanks to an anthology – the labor of DJ Cliffy in England-, and a movie called “Brasilintime” starring Black Rio musicians and the DJs Cut Chemist and Madlib.

BASURA 'No Seas Lesbiana Mi Amor' (7")
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites

DANNY & THE NIGHTMARES 'Death Of Satan' (7")
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites

Formed April Fool's Day 1999, Waller, Texas... Bridget and Jason, two recent Ohio transplants discover that the legendary songwriter Daniel Johnston lives in the same very small town in which they do. They make contact, and make arrangements to have a spaghetti dinner with Daniel at their home. The spaghetti was never made. Instead, when Danny noticed the collection of lame, broken musical instruments and the 25 dollar drum kit gathering dust in the couple's home, he insisted that they jam. The three plugged in, pressed record on the boombox, and recorded half of what would become the self-released demo c.d., "April 1999". It became immediately obvious that the three had a magical connection, sharing affinities for bizarre music, horror films, and soda-pop. The release of the demo disc was a major disappointment to the band. Funded by Danny, and released on his own Eternal Yip Eye imprint, the collection of songs was not only horrible and released in haste, it was not even the correct tape that had been taken to transfer. Danny apparently had accidentally taken a different tape of inferior quality to the duplication company. In 2000, the band released the "Natzi" 7'' single on the independent label Cool Beans. The following year, "The End is Near Again" e.p. was released by the same label. In 2003 the band got the opportunity to do a small tour opening for the legendary Butthole Surfers. 2005 saw the release of "Freak Brain", on the Sympathy for the Record Industry label. "Freak Brain" was a different type of experiment for the band. As it turned out, the record was the first and only record that Danny had ever played electrified instruments on. Danny wrote many of the songs on the bass guitar. 2006 has been a very remarkable and productive year for the band. They have recruited the talents of an all-girl string quartet, Two Star Symphony, to help record their next album, "The Death of Satan". Look for the new album to be released sometime around 2060...God Bless Danny & the Nightmares and all who sail with them.

DINGOS, LOS 'Thirteen Cook Road' (7" Gatefold Deluxe)
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites

Here we are facing a totally atipic band. The kind of band which starts in some Sydney bar, when a few friends gather to get drunk, dinning at a Japanese restaurant, create bands or even get into a studio to record. For example Los Dingos. Gorka Secta was spending a few days in Australia, and one of  those nights Kent Steedman (Celibate Rifles) proposes the idea of creating a band and getting into the studio with a few more friends such as Johnny Casino (Asteroid B612), Mick Poole and Tim Chillingworth. This is the way they got into the studio, composed, recorded and mixed two tracks in one evening. Mastered by Celibate Rifles sound engineer Rick O Neal at Turtlerock studio. What you have is here is two shots of pure Aussie high energy, made in Sydney.

A side: Angel, is a psichedelic rock cut in the way of the New Christs, while B side: Waiting, has the stamp on of those classical punk rock hymns by Lovelock-Steedman.

DIRTBOMBS 'Brand New Game' (7")
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites

Two brand new, exclusive songs available only on vinyl and in a limited edition.

This is the first Dirtbombs recording in more than a year! On the A-Side we find a cover of late Elliot Smith’s “Brand New Game”. On the B-Side we have a Dirtbombs original, composed by Mick Collins.

Mick put The Dirtbombs together in 1992 as a side project, after the breakup of THE GORIES. After many, many delays (including the now-legendary lineup changes, and a 14-month stretch Mick spent in a completely different band), the Dirtbombs started recording in 1995 and touring about a year after that. With their unconventional lineup and unique melding of genres, the Dirtbombs create a sound that is all their own. As a fansite says, “The structure of two bassists and two drummers gives the band a heavy rhythm-bass sound that drives the music forward and inspires the dance in even the stiffest of blokes.  This structure isn't going to become the new standard for rock bands - it definately wouldn't work for everyone, but it's perfect for the Dirtbombs' sound.  Drawing on Detroit's rich musical history, the Dirtbombs are a hybrid of influences including soul, blues, Motown and garage/punk. The listener hears Stevie Wonder one second and the MC5 the next.”

Collins has been a big figure in the Detroit scene since the early 80's.  Founding member of the GORIES and producer of hundreds of bands from Andre Williams to Atom Rhumba, he’s been a main contributor to the current hype that has put Detroit back again in the map of “cool rock ‘n’ roll”. His minimalist and bluesy approach to garage rock with his former band The Gories has influenced countless bands - most notably the White Stripes.

Their second album further expanded their audience and afforded the band performances in a score of new countries and some of the world's premier stages such as the Montreal Jazz and Glastonbury festivals and many others, where they shared the spotlight with acts ranging from Gilles Peterson, Roots Manuva, Taj Mahal and Isaac Hayes to Zap mama, Chic, Roy Ayers and Sean Kuti & Egypt 80. MULETRAIN 'The Ansar E.P.' (7")
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites

In April of 2007 Muletrain locked themselves in their practice space with their instruments and recording gear, and with Screaming Mario Loco at the wheels they recorded nine new songs that would later be mixed by Moncho Campa. Songs recorded there will be released as three separate singles. This, The Ansar EP, is one of them. Side A has two new original and unreleased tracks right in line with their super raw and energetic LP with an intensity that comes closer to the experience of seeing them live. In addition, side B has two covers, a surprisingly rocking and rough "Distant Smile" (Ultravox) done in their own style, and "Ain't no Feeble Bastard" (Discharge) which is transformed into a brutal Castilian version here with "No soy un Borrego." All of that wrapped up in luxurious artwork (by Screaming Mario Loco again) with a cover they're going to talk about.

NIKIS, LOS 'Aaaaghh!!... 1981-1982 (2x7" EP)
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites
