ALDEMARO ROMERO & MONNA BELL 'La Nueva Onda En Mexico' (LP 220 GR)
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites

Few people have managed to combine aspects of classical, popular and experimental music from the second half of the 20th Century in a brilliant and original way. Aldemaro Romero, the orchestra conductor born in Valencia, Venezuela in 1928 arrived in Mexico in the mid-fifties on his way to the U.S. where, in 1952, he was called to accompany and arrange the recordings of singer Alfredo Sadel for RCA Victor in New York. While he was there, in 1955 he recorded the LP “Dinner in Caracas”, which became a world-wide hit, putting Venezuelan popular music in a modern and cosmopolitan light for the first time outside its borders. Later on, he’d give us another dose with “Venezuelan Fiesta”. Shortly afterwards, in Mexico City, which at the time was the record production capital of Latin America, he recorded the LP “Criollisima” at the RCA Victor studios with Pancho Cárdenas at the mixing board. Cárdenas was responsible for the brilliant, spacious sound of many of the records out at the time, especially the recordings of the sonoramic Juan García Esquvel. Romero and Esquivel had more than one thing in common. In addition to being piano virtuosos with a futuristic sense for popular music revitalized with vocal arrangements and original instrumentation, they each experimented in the recording studio and maintained a mutual admiration and friendship. Esquivel and his group even played at the Primer Festival Onda Nueva in Caracas in 1971, right along side Astor Piazzola, Dave Grustin, Augusto Algueró and Elmer Bernstein, among others.

BEASTS OF BOURBON 'Little Animals' (LP Deluxe)
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites

THE BEASTS OF BOURBON ARE BACK!!! Older, dirtier and more dangerous than ever.

The edition of the new album "little animals" means, besides of the return of the one we believe is the best Australian band (ever!!!), another turn in their amazing music career.

A record that moves among swamp blues, Aussie 70s hard (kinda AC/DC, ROSE TATTOO), NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE psychodelia and the unique BEASTS OF BOURBON sound.

Songs of hatred and anxiety which speak about subjects such as sadomasochism, overdoses, death, betrayal and thug behavior so well known by this buch of bad men and better musicians.

When you listen to it you still have that feeling of danger going down your spine, and the feeling of them saying something like "fuck! how we hate each other!!!"

After showing during the last two years on stage that they keep on being one of the most burning and dangerous bands, in July 2006 they get into the studio in Melbourne and give birth (in 3 days!!!) to this sonic punch.

The rythm base of Brian Hooper and Tony Pola stands raw and hard as a rock, the guitars of Spencer P. Jones and Charlie Owen cut like a rusted razor and the voice of Tex Perkins rapes your ears with his suburbian blues.

Another master piece released for the whole planet by ALBERT MUSIC and licesed to BANG! Rcds. for a limited vinyl edition of 1000 numbered copies in deluxe gatefold and 180gr vinyl.

BEN VAUGHN 'Designs In Music' (LP)
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites

What do the american TV series That 70s Show and Third Rock From The Sun, Alex Chilton, Ween, Swingers, and the first album recorded enterely in a car have in common? One man. Ben Vaughn. Composer, producer, recording artist. A man Village Voice decribes as having a "sound so pure and spontaneous it sounds instantly classic."

Be it sitcoms, TV commercials, film soundtracks or radio play, somewhere in the world right now, Vaughn's music is being heard. Since 1986, he has been winning fans with his unique take on pop culture. Eight albums and a ten year career in Hollywood hace allowed Ben's music to travel to the far reaches of the earth. And with his latest, he brings it al together. Perfectly.

Designs In Music encapsulates this journey. Inspired by late-night drives to his weekend getaway in the Mojave Desert where the only station he cold pick was Palm Springs easy-listening station KWXY, Ben felt ready to combine everything he had learned through the years into one recording: The magic of those late-night broadcasts as well as his years spent as a composer producer and recording artist are represented equally in this project. But with a vitality that is in the moment, the now.

"It's obviously a tribute," says Ben, "but it's not a pristine re-creation of something from 1962. I wasn't really interested in making that kind of record. To me, instrumental music is a vibrant art form that's always ready for new ideas. And I've got a ton of them."

Ideas that explode in a pallet of many colors, of saxophones and trumpets, clarinets and trombones, of boss organ, bongos, wordless falsetto vocalizing, and Ben Vaughn's own tough yet warety guitar work.

We've been fans of Vaughn's music for twenty years, and though we've released some of his records on our other label Munster (Rambler 65, Cubist Blues, The Prehistoric Ben Vaughn...), we felt Designs In Music one was for Vampisoul! Designs In Music... a vibrant snapshot of instrumental music's past, present and future !!!!

BENITEZ AND NEBULA 'Night Life / Essence Of Life' (LP)
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites

Eddie Benitez's story is full of contrasts: a classical trained child prodigy turned Latin Rock superstar while hanging out in his teen years with the likes of Charlie Palmieri (his guardian angel, as he still names him), Louie Ramirez, Tito Puente and pretty much all the crew from the Fania All-Stars... and making a name for himself while at it. His debut album on Fania, “Night Life," brought him to the spotlight in 1976, earning his band Nebula rave reviews and the props of many of his peers, including names like George Benson, Al DiMeola and Carlos Santana. He also has the distinction of being the first Latino act ever to be featured at the mythical CBGB's. His career, not to mention his life, was screech halted twice, first with cancer and most recently this past November when a massive heart attack almost swept him from us. But here he is back,on his own, back with his band Nebula and, sooner than you may expect, back with a brand new project.

BUTCHER SHOP 'Complete Discography' (2xLP)
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites

The Butcher Shop was the project developed by Tex Perkins, at the same time as Beasts Of Bourbon, in the late 80s.

In this band, the artist showed his wildest, brutal and sonic side, walking amont swamp blues and grunge (before the name "grunge" existed for music)

In this sonic adventure Mr. Tex Perkins was surrounded by several musicians, such as people from Lubricated Goat, Beasts Of Bourbon (Spencer P. Jones) or the American musician Kid Congo Powers (The Gun Club, The Cramps, Nick Cave & Bad Seeds...) among others.

Here you will find, among other wonders, the original version of the song which became a hit afterwards with Beasts Of Bourbon, "hard for you".

This edition compiles the LP and EP released by this band in between 1988 and 1990, and which are totally impossible to find nowadays. These 15 tracks are all the band recorded.

Limited edition deluxe on double gatefold LP (500 handnumbered copies) and triple cover digipack CD, noted by Tex Perkins, and with never previously released pictures, it is proudly presented by Bang! Rcds in order to put again in the market this master piece of sonic swamp sound.

Dennis Coffey (born in Detroit, Michigan) is an American guitarist, notable as a prominent studio musician for many soul and R&B recordings. Coffey learned to play guitar when he was 13 in Ontonagon County in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. At 15 he played on his first record session backing Vic Gallon on "I'm Gone" on the Gondola label. In the early 1960s he joined The Royaltones who had had hits with "Poor Boy" in 1958 and "Flamingo Express" in 1961. The Royaltones played sessions with other artists including Del Shannon. As a member of the Funk Brothers studio band, Coffey played on dozens of recordings for Motown Records, and introduced the wah-wah guitar sound to Motown producer Norman Whitfield's recordings. He also played on Edwin Starr's "S.O.S. (Stop Her on Sight)”, The Isley Brothers' "It's Your Thing", and Freda Payne's "Band of Gold". In addition, Coffey scored the blaxploitation film Black Belt Jones. In 1971, Coffey recorded Scorpio which was a million selling single and in 1972 Taurus, both with The Detroit Guitar Band. Since then, he has recorded several solo albums, most of them for the Sussex and Westbound labels.

DOUBLE AGENTS 'Seemed Like A Good Idea...At The Time' (LP)
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites

Their unique scuzz-fuck blend of raw punk/R&B/R'n'R/country is revealed in all its guts and glory on their new album, "Seemed Like A Good Idea...At The Time"

It Seemed Like A Good Idea ... At the Time is a work of extremes, complexity and contrast.  On the first single lifted from the album, Makin’ Eyes, moments of dark garage blues play out against splashes of peyote-fuelled Stones country rock idealism.  You Got It All fluctuates between garage rock brutality and moments of tranquil respite as Miss Kimmy’s ravaged vocals interplay with Dave Butterworth and Ryan Tandy’s guitar attack in a dialectic that walks the fine line between hope and despair.  On The Liar the Double Agents are nasty, but earnest, like a drunk pleading for a cigarette at the end of the night.  There’s old time rockin’ and rollin’ in the title track, stomping ferocity in Wasting My Time, and sun and dust stained lamenting in Sour and Vicious Man (the album’s only cover song).  It’s a little bit country, a little bit blues and a whole lot of rock’n’roll.

The quality of Jaime Delgado Aparicio´s (Lima 1943-1983) music is not only born of his natural talent, but from many years of study (mostly in the US) and investigation. From his first award for his piano skills at fifteen, to his position as conductor of the (no less) Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Peru, Jaime Delgado Aparicio´s career is one of no equal in Peru´s music history. We are talking about heavyweight, probably the most talented jazz musician in Peru, and maybe Southamerica. It is not frequent that an individual leaves a permanent mark in the musical history of a country. In Peru, in the 60' s and 70' s, Jaime Delgado Aparicio, a pianist and composer, promoted and exposed all different styles of jazz to all social levels, helping many young students and professional musicians to understand this musical language.

KILL DEVIL HILLS 'The Drought' (180 gr Gatefold Deluxe)
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites

After their amazing first album "Heathen Songs" (Bang!-lp/cd17) THE KILL DEVIL HILLS come back with this second album where they continue in the direction of the first one but dirtier and with more rock.

If in the first album we had to name Nick Cave and Hugo Race as influential sounds, now we are pleasantly forced to think of THE BEASTS OF BOURBON when we listen to some of the killer tracks in this record.

This gang of Western Australia animals handles their swamp folk blues sound and takes it to a wilder and more extreme world of sounds where melodies and violins are remaining present in a wall of sound in order to force you to stop and listen.

After touring Australia and America, THE KILL DEVIL HILLS release this album in order to show us how they are not "The Next Big Thing". They are already a fact of the most impressive sounds in the boiling Australian scene.

If you heard the first one, for sure you will get it. If you didn´t, go and listen to both of them.

LEADFINGER ' The Floating Life' (LP) (gatefold deluxe)
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites

It's happening very soon!!! The debut Leadfinger album called "the floating life" will be released on glorious Limited Edition GATEFOLD VINYL and cool CD DIGIPACK by Bang! Records. "the floating life" is pretty much a solo album from a truly independent and humble underground legend of the Australian music scene, Stewy 'Leadfinger' Cunningham.

Over the last 16 years Leadfinger has done his time and written many awesome songs for great Australian rock and power-pop bands like Brother Brick, Asteroid B-612, The Proton Energy Pills, The Yes-Men and Challenger-7 but with "the floating life" he set out to do something totally different - all by himself - writing, playing, engineering, recording, producing and mixing 'the floating life" from start to finish by himself at his own dodgy home studio under his house on the southern edge of Sydney. The result is an album that is definitely unlike anything else you are likely to hear this year, bluesy and dark and at times electric with high energy and powerful riffs, it veers into the melodic territory of power-pop but with a noisier, harder edge...still with lots of guitars and great songs but with a fresh take on Aussie underground rock'n'roll. "the floating life" sits on the brilliant side of lo-fi and has been described as equal parts Westerberg, Chilton, Kuepper and Hitchcock with Fred 'Sonic' Smith along for the ride on lead guitar!!!!! Stand out tracks are the driving mayhem of "Edge of Suburbia", the 4/4 rockin fun of "Thin Lizzy' (think of The Replacements - Alex Chilton but this one is for Phil Lynott) and the stark acoustic power of "a floating life" - a song inspired by the work of Australian underground poet, John Forbes. "the floating life" has plenty of great songs with its main themes revolving around the highs and lows of life as a rock'n'roller on the margins of the music world, it is sure to surprise and endear itself to anyone with ears, so take the punt and check it out. Vinyl lovers will be happy as the amazing 12" gatefold also comes with an extra track that doesn't appear on the CD.

LOS YORK'S 'El Viaje 1966-1974' (2LP)
   Add to basketBasketAdd to favorites

HOLY SMOKE! What we have here?? Just another of the FABULOUS bands NO OTHER LABEL BUT MUNSTER can unearth for you!
This is the definitive anthology of one of the WILDEST bands from Southamerica! Ladies and gentlemen, from Lima, Peru, Los York's!
Our collection, aptly titled El Viaje (The Trip), brings together their greatest tracks, taken from their four LPs and 25 singles, between 1966 and 1974.
Los York's were the most famous and succesful band in their country (more than Los Shains or Los Saicos), and in this best-of compilation you surely can find why.
Back in their heyday they were accused of drug-abuse and critiziced because of the evilness of their sound and lyrics which praised free love! Oh yeah, to balance it out one of the songs in their third single (1966) translated for "go to hell"" (vete al infierno)!! The very original feedback guitar playin' of Walter Paz will be a true discovery for fans of The Who's Pete Townshend and even Sterling Morrison from The Velvet Underground. On the other hand, singer Pablo Luna was some sort of crazy hybrid between Iggy Pop and Reg Presley of The Troggs! He was a true character, and a stage animal, which was shocking for a place like Peru in the sixties. Years later some peruvian journalist, in a funny "body-count", wrote that during his career Pablo had smashed a total of 48 microphones! But Los York's attitude was TRUE, and not a pose, unlike these days when scandal and outrage is a powerful marketing tool! Los York's were true rebellious souls, unstopable and genuine. And their on-stage and off-stage behaviour is still legendary in Peru. They got so famous that they even had their own TV show (El Show de Los York's) that aired for almost a year in the best The Monkees' Show fashion.
This amazing "viaje" (trip) to southamerican sixties music is available on 2LP and CD.

More than three decades after its original release, and for the very first time on CD (also on Vampi top-notch 180 gram vinyl) Marie Queenie Lyons cult classic "Soul Fever! !!! On Vampisoul, of course!

Marie "Queenie" Lyons is a mystery girl, a Southern enigma.  Like a kind of black Bobbie Gentry, after just one album ("SOUL FEVER") Queenie vanished.  Following its 1970 release, she disappeared off the soul map forever, like a roman candle floating off into the warm Southern night.

"SOUL FEVER" was just a drop in an ocean of fabulous, funky R&B recordings released that year.  But over the decades, it's become a CULT CLASSIC and established as one of the rarest and most prized Southern soul albums from that prolific era.
Queenie certainly had the qualifications (in both sass and vocals) to be hired by JAMES BROWN as one of his "funky divas.
